Jessica: Hello everyone! Welcome back to 5-minute English Practice.
Today, I’m going to the hair salon near my house. My hair is long and black, but it has become quite dry and damaged recently. I want to get some soft waves and also do a hair treatment to restore its health. Let’s practice natural English conversations you can have with a hairdresser. This is very useful real-life English. Come with me!

Hairdresser: Hello! Welcome to our salon. How are you today?
Jessica: Hi! I’m doing well, thank you. I’d like to do something with my hair today.
Hairdresser: Great! Please have a seat. First, let me check the condition of your hair. (touches Jessica’s hair gently) Your hair is quite long and thick. The color is beautiful natural black. But it looks a bit dry, especially at the ends. Have you been using heat tools a lot?
Jessica: Yes, I use a straightener almost every day for work. That’s probably why it’s damaged. I want to change the style a little. I’m thinking of soft waves, not too curly, just gentle waves that look natural. Also, I really need a deep hair treatment to repair and restore my hair. Do you think that’s possible?
Hairdresser: Absolutely. Soft waves will look very nice on your long hair. Because your hair is quite healthy at the roots but dry at the ends, I recommend we do a hair repair treatment first, then create the waves. The treatment will make your hair smoother, shinier, and healthier.
Jessica: That sounds perfect. What kind of treatment do you suggest?
Hairdresser: We have a keratin repair treatment or an intensive moisturizing treatment with argan oil and collagen. Since your hair needs both repair and moisture, I think the intensive moisturizing treatment combined with a light keratin serum would be best. It will help restore the damaged parts and give your hair a beautiful natural shine.
Jessica: Great. How long will the whole process take?
Hairdresser: Let me see… First, we’ll wash your hair and apply the treatment. That takes about 30 to 40 minutes. Then we’ll rinse it out and start creating the soft waves with a curling iron. The styling part will take another 40 to 50 minutes. So in total, it should take around 1 hour and 30 minutes to 1 hour and 45 minutes. Is that okay with your schedule?
Jessica: Yes, that’s fine. I have the whole afternoon free.
Hairdresser: Perfect. Before we start, do you want to keep your hair the same length or should I trim the damaged ends a little?
Jessica: Please trim just a little bit, about 2 or 3 centimeters, to remove the split ends. But I still want to keep my hair long.
Hairdresser: Noted. Now, about aftercare — this is very important. After the treatment and waves, you should avoid washing your hair for at least 48 hours so the treatment can set properly. Use a sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner. Also, try to reduce using heat tools. If you have to use a hairdryer, always apply heat protectant first. I can recommend some good products for you to take home.
Jessica: Thank you. I’ll definitely follow your advice. How often should I do this kind of treatment to keep my hair healthy?
Hairdresser: For best results, I suggest doing the intensive treatment every 6 to 8 weeks. And remember to use a hair mask once a week at home. Drinking enough water and eating foods rich in protein and biotin also help a lot.
Jessica: I’ll keep that in mind. One more thing — will the waves last long?
Hairdresser: The soft waves usually last about 4 to 6 weeks, depending on how you take care of your hair. If you use the right products and avoid too much heat, they can stay longer and look more natural.
Jessica: That’s wonderful. I’m really excited to see the result. Shall we start now?
Hairdresser: Yes, let’s begin. First, I’ll wash your hair. Please come this way.

Hairdresser: Your hair is responding very well to the treatment. It already feels much softer. The waves are coming out beautifully — natural and elegant.
Jessica: It smells so nice too! I can already feel the difference.
Hairdresser: All done! Take a look. What do you think?
Jessica: Oh wow! It looks amazing! The waves are exactly what I wanted — soft and natural. And my hair feels so much healthier and shinier. Thank you so much! You did a fantastic job.
Hairdresser: I’m so glad you like it! Remember the aftercare tips and come back in 6 to 8 weeks if you want to maintain the treatment. Here are the products I recommend for daily care.
Jessica: Thank you again. I really appreciate your advice and help. Have a great day!
Hairdresser: You too! Enjoy your new hairstyle. See you next time!
